Like many, I
was not familiar with the fabulous Ricardo Antonio Chavira until I
started watching Desperate
Housewives in October of 2004.
Although his character, Carlos
Solis, can at times
be overbearing and even menacing, Ricardo injects a certain
charisma to him. He brings out a perfect blend of masculinity
and vulnerability to this multi-layered business man caught up in legal
woes. Not to mention, plenty of unpredictability. One can
never be sure what Carlos will do from one week to another. One
moment
he could be forcing his wife to sign a post nuptial, the next he could
be playing in the tub like a child. Played by any
other actor, Carlos might've come off as some flat one-sided jerk, but
Ricardo made him into something so
much more than that. Equally good at expresing rage as
well as comedy, his chemistry with Eva Longoria is
fantastic and you cannot deny that these two enjoy putting scenes
together.
Speaking of Miss Longoria, here is a quote from her
. . .
"Forget Mike (James
Denton) and John (Jesse Metcalfe), the one who
really does it for me is Mr. Solis (Ricardo Chavira).
He's strong,
rich, tall, dark and handsome, and a great kisser."
-- From Elle
Magazine
It was February
though that I really fell in love
with the man behind Carlos Solis. Even though I wasn't a
regular viewer of the Oprah Winfrey show, I tuned in when I heard some
of the male cast members of Desperate Housewives were going to be
featured. I have seen a lot of things featuring the
women of DH, so I thought it was a real treat to see something with the
guys. Ricardo was, to quote Oprah, even cuter off the
show! I was surprised how shy he was, but I think it
made him all the more endearing.
Although Ricardo is very handsome ( he's not
in
the People EnEspanol's list as being one of the most beautiful
Hispanic
entertainers for space filler)
and
incredibly talented for a man who has only been professionally acting
for five years -- I came to adore something else about him. That,
my friends, is his heart. His support of the Susan
G. Komen
Organization in honor of his mother who passed away from the disease,
is an example that not all
celebrities let their fame and fortunes go to their heads. Some,
like this fellow San Antonian, put it to good use.
Determination is another fine quality this man
possesses. The casting crew almost turned down Ricardo for
his most famous role; they said he was too young and not suave
enough for the part. He proved them wrong as we could see -- and
has the Screen Actor's Guild
Award to prove it!
Mislabled as a "bad" actor and even "ugly" by
some
(mostly by rabid Jesse Metcalfe and James Denton fangirls with no
life*) ,
I believe our Ricardo is sorely underrated. However, I am
looking on the bright side and have hopes that this site will more than
make up for that -- for he is
more than just a pretty face.

*When I say that, I am not refering to ALL JM and JD fans,
just
the
ones who go "ricardo is sooo ugly I hope it's jessie's baby!112" or
something to that effect, so think before sending hatemail. I
have met many JM and JD fans who are
respectful to Ricardo and his fans. Hell, many of them are fans
of RC as well. It's the rabid ones who think only those two
actors are worth recieving appreciation that I frown upon.
